The U.S. House of Representatives voted to give home buyers who qualified for a federal tax credit more time to settle on their pending purchases.
The house voted 409-5 to extend the deadline for closing home purchases for Sept. 30. The program initially required borrowers who signed contracts before April 30th to complete paperwork by July 1 to get a tax credit of as much as $8,000
The tax credit may have fueled a temporary increase in home sales, which fell after the April deadline passed. New-home sales dropped 33% to a record low of 300,000 in May, the Commerce Department reported. Applications for loans to purchase properties fell at the end of May to the lowest level since 1997, according to the Mortgage Bankers Associations.

The stock market just experienced its worst May performance since 1940, it dropped 8% and its worst monthly performance in fourteen months. In May the stock market experienced a huge meltdown and recovery in what can best best described as a huge market malfunction! News events mostly outside of the US had a large part of the problem. The euro was down another 5% for the month versus the dollar. With all the outbreaks in Europe, North Korea & South Korea, massive oil spill in Mexico, tensions in the middle east, all of these things just set the market falling and overwhelmed the positive news flow regarding improvement in the U.S. economy. Investors are now viewing the U.S. equity market as a safe haven for global investors. The U.S. economy is trying to return to normal with the government trying to create new jobs and employment is slowly starting to pick up. We can only hope for the best and look forward to more positive world news!

Short sale transactions have made a big change for the better and actually getting them closed in a timely matter. The banks have now went to doing the transactions on line, no more faxing or snail mail! My last transaction took 45 days, the same as a regualar sale.
